EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Chevy Volt is an Electric Vehicle released by General Motors. It has sold over 77,000 Chevy Volts by June 2014. However, Chevy Volt’s %share of sale to the overall sales of GM is not very impressive.

To enhance the sales of Chevy volt, GM could rebuild its sales and marketing strategy. Installing solar powered charging stations accessible to all and that are compatible for all types of EVs will increase their visibility. Customers could be invited to test drive the car. GM could initiate “Plant a tree” on customer’s name on their EV purchase. They could also create customer’s awareness on the cost benefits of EVs.

Many working professionals and people aged between 30 and 50 (with disposable incomes) are aware about current environmental issues. They want to make a difference to the society and be considered as responsible citizens.GM could engage this group to generate sales. They could create a very strong image of them as an environment friendly and socially responsible company by aligning with NGOs and NFP organisations. A rigorous campaign in creating awareness about reducing GHG emissions will help in uplifting its brands image. Customers might find their approach attractive as they are projecting themselves as responsible corporate.
