Media

Media has helped us in many ways; Facebook helps us stay connected to friends and family from long distances, Google provides answers to daily asked questions and also helps with research and many other things. There are also many other websites/apps to socialize like Skype, many businesses use it to teleconference from many miles away. I believe there are many positives to social media and media itself but I also believe that media is ruining our overall communication skills.

Before the year of 1969, when media had just started to come out, humans had to socially and verbally contact whomever they wanted to talk to. Never did they have an option to send a text “Hey, ‘sup? Wanna come over?” They didn’t have the internet to do research they used other resources, books and interviews. Albert Einstein once said, “I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction,” and I agree with him completely. We are creating our own language and slang words through texting and instant messaging. Boys and girls don’t ask each other out face-to-face they send a message through social media, and I do not agree with that.

Technology is great, however I feel as if people are taking advantage of it (including myself) and we as a nation are becoming lazier when it comes to physical social contact. I predict that this will get worse, and that more media and technology will come out so somehow we won’t have to speak at all, we will just have to think of the words and let technology type or read it out loud. I hope they continue to create and build technology/media to make us smarter but not to become lazier human beings.
