New York City Plans for a Women Only Car Service

We have so many different options for car services these days- from taxis, town car’s, limo’s, to the ride -sharing service, but now there is a car service exclusively for women, called She Rides.

She Rides uses an app-based service, which would allow women to arrange rides with female only car service drivers. There are no male drivers, and if a gentleman used this app they would be referred to another service.

The Taxi and Limousine Commission prohibits operators from refusing rides based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and even destination. Where She Rides app is not yet authorized, regulators will be meeting with the company representatives sometime next week.

This app is already creating a huge controversy based on sexual orientation, race or gender. She Rides goal is also to hire Muslim and Orthodox female drivers to provide service to women of the same religion. One of the reasons behind this decision is that there are certain religious beliefs were a woman is required to avoid day-to-day interactions with most men.

The challenges that I will face researching this are; it is a new, not yet approved app. So far there has been few article’s published, so there is not much more information at this time, however I feel there is plenty to discuss whether the app gets approved or not.

The reason I chose this topic is because my current major is business management. I find the idea of this business quite interesting, not to mention, I’m curious to see how the marketing will be handled if they succeed.
