There are several problems with the IT system at Junk Van, the current system is very ineffective and does not address the mistakes that are made by employees. The IT system does not support input and output processes efficiently. The communication between employees is done manually and they rely on human accuracy instead of IT. Their operations have a virtual business model that does not support a physical office space; therefore with an IT system that cannot be accessed remotely it is difficult to support the processes in an efficient way.

In the current Database they have inaccurate data du to mistakes, therefore are not able to coordinate, measure or even control the business processes. With this kind of problem it is hard to understand the steps in their value chain. At this point in their business they need a system that will allow the to at least have accurate data so they can be able to manage the input processes of taking customer orders for example, and be able to communicate to execute the job. If they manage this information well, they will be able to plan, execute and evaluate results to manage the value chain. They do not need to have a world-class Information system but something to help them measure where they are in the business and help them move forward.
