Functional Areas of Business

In today’s business world managing others is not a small task. With the role of manager, this job comes with multiple tasks and responsibilities that one must uphold in order to be successful and respected. The role of manager is a very important duty and some of the responsibilities that come with the job are problem solving, communicating, and providing organizational cohesion to name only a few. The purpose of this paper will be to analyze the role of management as they relate to the most common functional areas.

To accomplish organizational goals set forth by a company management will need to work collectively with individuals and use multiple resources at hand in order to be successful. Management requires stimulating, motivating, and communicating with employees and individuals and teams (Bateman & Snell, 2007, p. 17). Every organization has functional departments that have a set goal and achievements that need to be met. These departments all essentially work together to achieve the goals that have been set forth by the organization itself. To name a few of any organizations functional departments are Production, Human Resources, Customer Service, Administration, Sales, Finance, Distribution, Marketing and Research and Development (R & D).

Although it takes multiple departments to run an organization the most common departments found in just about every organization are the areas of human resources, financing customer service and marketing. In the following paragraphs each of these common departments will be analyzed and shown how it is related to the functions of a mangers role.
