Thirty four years ago, my favorite books were Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys and the Happy Hollister’s, adventure series books, these were my adventure books and to this day I will still read them. Once I reached high school my favorite books turned to romance novels by Jude Deveraux, Johanna Lindsey, and Kathleen Woodwiss that dealt with knights in shining armor, westerns and time travel and these books were a beginning of my fantasy world. After I was married with children, my romance novels turned to supernatural, vampire, werewolf and alien romance books a form of getting away from everyday living. My cultural identity was largely that of the teenage subculture and fantasy, I was pretty much surrounded by my family, I grew up with my brother and two male cousins, not too many friends to go anywhere with. My books were my best friends growing up and to this day I still read a book when time permits.

My books do reflect me in my fantasy world of love and romance and as well as the true stories I enjoy reading. The true stories also reflect on my life from my having living through some of the life situations others may have. I do have to say this, books have made me the way I am today, as well as how my parents raised me. As I stated before, I grew up the only girl in the country, my past times were mainly reading books, swimming or taking long walks. So as I read my books they showed me moral values in being respectful and helpful to others, that doing wrong things were wrong, learning about new places that I would never have the chance to see.

Since choosing literature class, I have come to enjoy reading more poems and other forms of literature. I even have become truly enamored about Maya Angelou, what a truly amazing woman who had fought different odds and to overcome these odds by giving the world beautiful words.
