Part 1
President Andrew Johnson:
Wanted....He wanted the same thing President Lincoln wanted except Johnson had patience
But....He vetoed a law and was impeached in the early 1868
So....The Radical Republicans began what was called the Radical Reconstruction.
Radical Republicans:
Wanted....to control the South until they could be sure the South would not return to its pre-Civil War ways, including slavery.
But....The Reconstruction ended when President Hayes was elected in office, he removed the remaining federal troops in the
Southern States to win the election just as the south wanted.
So....There was no more Federal protection for pro-republicans, African American voters, and freedmen
Southern Democrats:
Wanted....They wanted the federal troops of the North to leave and stay out
But....the south lost so the North came into their territory
So....The reconstruction did work.
Part 2
The main issue that divided the republicans was that President Johnson vetoed many bills that the congressed
passed to prevent it from taking over Reconstruction and so led many Republicans to join the Radicals. If i was a member
of congess my plan for reconstruction that i would support would have been that anyone who treats the newly freedmen and/or
African American with any hostile attempt will be thrown in jail for many years to come and my reason on why is because even
after the civil war African Americans were treated as trash for something as stupid as their skin color so anyone who doesnt know
how to respect others dont deserve to be respected by others.
