Fast Company Toyota

An organization such as Toyota shows itself to be filled with a tremendous amount of passion and energy that paves the way for new ideas everyday without the “hair-pulling” stress that many other organizations have been riddled with. Toyota shows an understanding that mistakes are going to be made which is a characteristic of human nature that will lead to ways to fix the mistakes to progress instead of being held back. They’ve embraced that some changes work and others don’t, and that constantly trying is what helps them become more efficient in the long run, even if that choice only helps efficiency by 1% a month.

Toyota’s business structure is most striking in the essence that their business model can be used in any type of business. It’s about continuous improvement at every level of the company. They utilize their human capital, which most organizations are falling short on, to do their daily jobs and do them well, but also to find a better way to do the job everyday to maximize their time. It is inspiring how Toyota stresses that it is essential to change and look for new ideas everyday, all day, not just until it’s time to clock out. They’re comparisons to everyday situations that a person normally goes through and how in simple situations we come up with better ways to do things that make it easier for us. Their example on how one employee managed to maximize their sleep time by keeping track of the time it takes to get to work and his way of finding an easier, faster way to mow the lawn is something everyone can relate and are willing to do, so why not at your job. When thinking of changing and adapting in a work place, this ideology makes the process a lot more comprehendible and manageable. It makes employees want to come up with new ways so that not only their jobs become better but the whole companies as well.
