To Drill or Not to Drill?

HUM/111

TAMARA ANDERSON

America is in general, a very independent country and should continue their independence by freeing themselves from dependence to other countries for their crude oil. There are plenty of places in the United States that have the potential to produce just as much oil, if not more. Not only would producing our own oil release us from the pressure of maintaining good relationships with bad countries but also create hundreds of thousands of jobs that could help bring our country out of the recession it is currently in. The biggest mistake America has made has been outsourcing all of the jobs to China and other countries. By finding oil on our own land we would be able to create jobs, and eventually be the country selling to other countries and turning a profit, which in the long run could be a great income source for our country. By depending on oil from other countries it makes the United States vulnerable to having to cater to the needs of the countries we receive it from, in fear of those countries holding back what we need until we fulfill their requests. I understand that Alaska and other untouched places are beautiful and many people do not want the land to be dug up but in all honesty it makes much more sense to get use out of land than to sit and watch it. I should be more understanding to the feelings of other people when they do not want Mother Nature ruined for something that could or could not be there, and could or could not better the United States. I have never been a eco-friendly, hug a tree, save the world, stop global warming kind of person. It is not that I do not care about my environment; it is that I do not take it to the extreme....
