1. How dose Miller fit the profile of the average fraud perpetrator? How does he differ? How did these characteristics make him difficult to detect?

a. Miller fits the profile of the with collar criminal, he is a typical business person that has committed fraud. Throughout his career he has resorted to fraud. I really don’t see that he differ that much from the average white collar criminal, to go on what Miller states is that he felted like it was a disease that he could not help himself. He was for the most part regarded as an ideal employee who was dedicated, hardworking and trusted. So, on one really thought about checking up on him because of these factors. Miller did not give off anything besides being a capable employee.

2. Discuss how Miller accomplished the three elements of the opportunity triangle (commit, conceal, convert) in embezzling funds from associated communications. What specific concealment techniques did Miller use?

b. Miller accomplished the three elements of the opportunity triangle, by first committing the fraud Miller saw the opportunity to commit fraud. He took assets from numerous companies. Miller used lapping were he stole the checks that one customer a mails in to pay its account receivable. Funds received at a later date from customer b are used to pay off customer a’s balance. Also Miller used the kiting scheme where he might have created cash by taking advantage of the timing lag between depositing a check and the check clearing the bank.

3. What pressures motivated miller to embezzle? How had Miller use?

c. Financial, Emotional and lifestyle was a factor in motivating Miller to embezzle. Financial because he was living beyond his means, which ties in to the other to emotional and lifestyle.
