Literature review

I have analyzed a number article which describes various aspects of corporate social responsibility in order to identify the core of corporate social responsibility, its disclosure system, related factors and understandability with a view to an organization’s management.

I have found that most of the author describes corporate social responsibility as the process of communicating social and economic impact of organization’s economic activities to the interest group in the society. According to Belal (2001), it is difficult to introduce western corporate social reporting procedure in developing countries as it have different socio-economic, political and cultural environment of a country. He describe that there are some context which we should keep in mind that have impact on CSR. Those are political, economic, socio-cultural as well as regulatory context. Democratic system in Bangladesh has started to produce impacts on the economic developments. Developed economy required to disclose legal and fair statements. Government started to introduce privatization of loss making industry. Besides, Security and exchange commission is established to protect and regulate the rights of investors.

The cultural life of Bangladesh is characterized by the existence of high family values, powerful elite groups and widespread corruption. (Belal, 2001). Small social important group control the reaches of the government. They usually want to save their own benefits. Moreover, labor union maintains a strong liaison with major political parties. They are also concerned with establishing the parties’ benefit.

According to Belal(2001), It is important for an organization to report its responsibility towards its stakeholders. He mentioned that government is doing their best to establish a proper reporting procedure. But there are key issues which haven’t disclosed by the organizations.
