Southwest Airlines is one of the largest low-fare airlines in the United States. One familiar phrase that is often associated with Southwest is “Wanna Get Away?” Southwest became a major airline in 1989 when it exceeded the billion-dollar revenue mark. According to their website, Southwest operates more than 3,200 flights a day, making it the largest U.S. carrier based on domestic passengars carried as of March 31, 2010. There are various distinctions between Southwest and other competing airlines which is why they stand to be the most successful. Southwest Airlines has consistently received the lowest number of complaints per passengers boarded of all Major U.S. carries that have been reporting statistics to the Department of Transportation (DOT) since September 1987, which is when the DOT began tracking Customer Satisfaction statistics and publishing its Air Travel Consumer Report. (2010, Southwest). Some may say that their success is due to their low rates and avaialibilty, but Southwest proves that their success far exceeds their pricing. It’s about their culture and how they implement that culture into every aspect of the business.

Southwest is known for how they treat their employees and the benefits that they offer. Among many recognitions that they have earned, one of the has been “Best Places to Work in IT” by Computerworld’s 2010 along with many other awards for leadership, most admired and top internships. Southwest’s Human Resource strives themselves on the involvement of the development of organization systems and practices for the planning, acquisition, development and utilization of manpower. Their policy is to attract only the best talent across the globe. They are committed towards diversity and the policies are framed accordingly. Their motto on their website states the following:
