Spirituality includes a sense of connection to something bigger than ourselves, and it typically involves a search for meaning in life. As such, it is a universal human experience, something that touches us all. In contrast religious belief refers to the belief in the reality of the mythological, supernatural, or spiritual aspects of a religion. Religious belief is distinct from religious practice or religious behaviours with some believers not practicing religion and some practitioners not believing religion.
There’s lots of evidence for both sides of the debate. Postmodernism is the main theory that states that this is true and that religion is a private and personal matter. The main argument that they use is that the world is getting increasingly chaotic and people are not sure what path to take because there are so many options. Therefore people will seek the calmness and certainty that religion and spirituality can provide. Postmodernism then goes on to state that people may be more privatised. This is shown that they maybe using a phone app. There are now a range of apps that could remind someone of what time to pray, or alternatively one that shows the user a new bible quote everyday. In addition, religion has become more commercial and it is much easier to get access to many religious symbols. For example, the Christian cross can be bought from many shops. People can now practise their religion at home and therefore it isn’t necessary to pray at work or overtly tell everyone. However, there are some exceptions to this, namely the 2 minute silence to remember those to gave their lives for us.This happens nationwide and lessons are stopped to have this 2 minute silence. This could be seen as civil religion, but it could just be respect to those who fought in the war.
Postmodernism also states that religion and spirituality is becoming more individualized as we now develop our own do-it-yourself beliefs that fit in with our inspirations and aspirations....
