Spiritual Gifts Paper

In the results of the spiritual gifts test I found that my top two spiritual gifts were pastor/shepherd and showing mercy. I completely agree with the results that the test came up with. I have always been some kind of leader. Even when I was a child I would always find some way to be the one that led the group. I never wanted to be the one in the background. As I got older I began to realize that in a leadership position you have the responsibility of leading and teaching other people. It eventually became a natural thing to stand in a leadership role and instruct the people who follow you. I also realized that when other people are following your instruction that you have to show mercy. I have never been the person that can condemn someone. I have always had a second chance heart. Everyone makes mistakes, but I feel like they should be given a chance to redeem themselves. I also believe that because Jesus showed us so much mercy, we have no reason not to. I don’t understand how people can never forgive when Jesus gave up His life for us even though we make multiple mistakes. Jesus is the perfect example on how to forgive people, and I believe we should all follow His example.

I believe that God gave us these gifts to be used. He did not intend for us to not use them, or even use them for the wrong reasons. I am currently a full time worship pastor at a large church. This position comes with the task of leading large amounts of people. Not only during worship on Sundays but also in our small group or band setting. I use my pastor/shepherd gift almost everyday. Not only do these people need to be led and encouraged with everyday things, but also in their spiritual life. So many people forget about encouraging others to grow in their relationship with Christ. I believe that it is one of the most important things you can do as a leader.
