Business law is a broad subject with an advantage of universal applicability. For every person, organization, business, etc, the law serves as a very important function- it provides stability. According to West’s Business Law, law consists of enforceable rules governing relationships among individuals and between individuals and their society. (Clarkson, 2001) In the United States such rules are written laws and court decisions which are combined in the U.S. Constitution. People who live in the U.S. as well as all the organizations and businesses that are based in the U.S. must comply according to its laws.

For the past five years I have been building a town car business, expanding it with each year and making constant improvements. In these years I have discovered that operating any business, big or small involves an endless amount of legal matter. Before a business can legally operate, the owner must first decide what form of business to establish. The amount of liability of the owners, tax considerations and legal paperwork depends on what kind of business structure was chosen, whether it is a sole proprietorship, a partnership, a corporation, etc. My business partner and I organized our business together; therefore it was appropriate to legally register it as a partnership. After the company was legally registered, my partner and I came up with a name for the business and the first official step was completed.

AW Seattle started out as a small company, which was operated and managed by only two people – my partner and I. The small amount of work that we were receiving did not require any more employees or drivers. With each year our business went through positive changes, we introduced new processes and incorporated new ideas to make it more successful.
