Club IT wants to be a leader in the entertainment industry. They have hired a Subject Matter Expert, (SME) in the Information System field to develop a business strategy that will place them above the competition. The SME is studying and reviewing the strategies for competitive advantage she learned about recently and has chosen to pursue the differentiation strategy for the purpose of improving and enhancing the club experience, for clients, employees, vendors, and the owners alike.

The club’s mission is to offer live music on weekends, and use a DJ during the week and offer dance space and refreshments that suit the lifestyle of its clients. They want their clients to know that Club IT is a place for friends because they consider each client a friend. They want to build a community that meets regularly at Club IT (Club IT, 2007).

The club’s primary clientele are white-collar business people between the ages of 25 and 40. They are technologically well-informed people who own the latest technological gadget and who want the places they frequent to be up to speed on technology. Club IT wants to meet the needs of its clients and will consider upgrading its technology so that it can be known as a different sort of club.

After reviewing the club’s mission statement and studying the main clients of the club, the SME is making good use of the differentiation strategy by developing unique ideas not commonly found in other clubs. She hopes this will entice new clients into the establishment as well keeping current clients coming and happy. She also wants to use the strategy aforementioned to foster employee satisfaction and retention and build a better business for the owners.
