Boxer Would Make a Better Leader than Napoleon

How would you feel if you lived on a farm where you worked all day and barely got any food? In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, the animals of Manor Farm start a revolution on a farm in England. They take over and throw out the old owner of the farm. At first, it is great for the animals but then Napoleon begins to take over. Napoleon manipulates the animals to make life easier for him and the other pigs while the rest of the farm suffers. Boxer would have been a much better leader than Napoleon. Boxer always does his share of work, he is well-liked and respected by the animals of the farm, and inspires the farm to work harder.

One reason that Boxer should be the leader of Animal Farm is because he always did his work. Not only did he do his share of the work but he would do extra work as well. He got up an hour earlier just so he could do extra work. “It must be due to some fault in ourselves. The solution, as I see it, is to work harder. From now onwards I shall get up a full hour earlier in the morning” (Orwell 85). No one else on the farm was willing to put in the extra effort. He was always willing to go above and beyond what he had to do. He could better relate to the animals of the farm because he worked just as hard as the. Boxer had a saying of, “I will work harder!” (Orwell 29). Boxer always wanted to work harder and make the farm better for everyone. When Boxer died, Napoleon was telling the other animals that they should be like Boxer and work hard. Even when Boxer was dying he worked hard. “Boxer refused to take even a day off work, and made it a point of honour not to let it be seen he was in pain” (Orwell 111). As he got older he only pushed himself harder, he even believed that he should work harder now to make up for when he retired.

Boxer would make a great leader not only because he is a hard worker but he is also highly respected throughout the farm. If he is more respected and...
