Characteristics of Expository Essays.

I choose to read the essay’s Cochlear Implants and A Soul as free as the air.

Both of these essays started with a thesis statement, and then in the body of the essay provided facts and evidence to back up the thesis statements, and both essays end with a logical conclusion to back up the thesis statements.

Cochlear Implants Essay

The author chooses to organize the Cochlear Implant Essay by informative process; he wanted the audience to be informed of the benefits of Cochlear Implants, his personal journey to getting implants, and the controversy that has surrounded the implants. Furthermore he provided information regarding his own experience with getting Cochlear implants and the reasons that he felt it was important to do so, and I believe this is why the author chooses to use the information process.

I think that the author could have used another form of organization but he would not have been able to include his own personal experiences as a way to get his point across.

A soul as Free as the Air

The authors of this essay choose time organization development for this essay because the essay is about the life of Lucy Stone and the accomplishments she made throughout her life. This was an effective way to demonstrate to the audience the many trials and accomplishments of Lucy and to provide and informative time line.

I think another form of organization would have been informative but not personal. I believe the author was trying to make the audience feel some emotion towards Lucy Stone while providing factual information.

The essays are alike in that they both are provided specific facts regarding their subjects. Both essays provide the audience with a time line as to how events took place and both are factual and provide examples to back up the thesis statements. Both essays speak of the controversy surround the issues at hand.

The differ in that the essay A Soul as Free as the air is written in third person...
