Stakeholders for Maricopa County

Stakeholders play a vital role in the success of any organization. An organization stakeholder is a party that affects or can be affected by the action of the business as a whole. Maricopa County has three type of stakeholders that affect and are affected the decision making process when problems arise. Maricopa County stakeholders are employees, the resident tax payers, and the elected officials in the state of Arizona. Proper use of the nine step decision making model is imperative to the decision making process when problems arise; while being sensitive to the stakeholder’s perspective.

The decision making process by an organization relates to the stakeholders confidence in the organization. The first step in the nine step decision making process is to identify the problem. According to Landry (2000), being completely honest with the stakeholders about all significant problems is the main ingredient for success and will earn the stakeholders trust. Maricopa County holds board meetings at least once a month open to the public. Opening board meetings to the public give stakeholders a chance to feel part of the decision making process. Once the organization has identified the cause of the problem, step four, stakeholders will be given the opportunity to participate in the evaluation of each solution. The participation of stakeholders not only serve as good relations between the organization and the stakeholders, but also gives Maricopa County the opportunity to receive a diverse input that may help frame alternative solutions, step five, in the decision making process. According to Simon (1977), the decision making process is a complex concept.
