* Ratra and associates (2006) define marriage as a “legally binding contract between a woman and a man that conveys certain mutual rights and privileges, including an intimate bonding, sexual exclusivity, legitimating of any children born of the union, and economic responsibilities”.
* What does the term “Marriage” mean?
* Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the Indian Philosopher and former President of India, has stated, “ Marriage is not a mere convention but an implicit condition of human society. It is an adjustment between the biological purposes of nature and the sociological purposes of man”.
* What does the term “Marriage” mean?
* In its essence, Marriage, like the family is a set of socially patterned ideals and practices concerned with the biological and cultural survival of the species.
* It is universal in the sense that it is present in every society.
* Marriage is invisibly stable, and present in all domains of the Family !
* Normally a contract, initially made through a one time event, but passes through each and every domain in the family life, as long as the family.
