The Man Who Changed the Sport of Hockey

Bobby Orr was born in Parry Sound on March 20th 1948. Since he was a child his father also saw that he had potential to be a great player because of his amazing speed on the ice1. During his younger ages he was coached by Bucko McDonald former NHL player. When He was 14, Orr played on the Oshawa Generals1. By age 18 he moved on to playing for the Boston Bruins in the NHL.

From there his career in hockey went sky rocket! Orr was one of the best, in his first season of the NHL he won three major awards; Best Rookie, NHL’s second all-star team and the Calder Trophy. Other awards that he got were; James Norris Trophy (seven times), Art Ross Trophy (two times), Conn Symthe Trophy (two times), Hart Memorial Trophy (two times), and the Lester B. Pearson Award1. In 1970 Orr won his first Stanley Cup, two years later he won his second. Orr was the only defense men to ever get an award for two scoring titles1.

In Orr’s second season he suffered from an injury to his left knee. Players soon realized that the only way to stop Orr was to go where it hurt, his knee. Eventually his knee could hold up any long and he had to retire in 19781.

Orr now helps in different types of charities golf tournament. Orr doesn’t have his own specific charity but motivates people all over the world.

Orr also had many monuments made to recognize him for the game of hockey. In Oshawa, Ontario the is a school named after Bobby Orr known as, Bobby Orr Elementary School. Also in Oshawa Orr has a bobby Orr lounge that is located at the civic centre. There

are many different types of Monument around the world that symbolize Bobby Orr.

Now in two thousand ten we know Mr. Orr as the man who revolutionized the sport of hockey the man who controlled the ice whenever he was on, people all look up to him and realize what an amazing player he was1. Bobby Orr is truly a special athlete and will always be remember.
