In this paper, I will provide recommendations for the restructuring of Smith and Falmouth. The purpose of the change is to empower the employees. I will use the organization’s current methods of control to provide ways to improve their practices and why. The company that will be used for this analysis will be Smith and Falmouth. It is a mid-size mail order network company. Six months ago, the COO (Online Chief Operating Officer) implemented a new division in the company. The division will meet the demands of future technologies. The COO expects this new division to show successful results in a timeline of nine months. The company faces a number of issues; productivity, efficiency, and loyalty. The company has suffered significant losses and it cannot afford to avoid changes any longer.

Restructure

The new COO has come across confrontations from other employees. Employees are challenging her leadership by forming groups without her attachment and this is a sign of disrespect to her authority as Chief Operating Officer. These issues need to be changed before they affect production goals.

The new department consists of employees from other business areas in the company. Their work experience made a suitable fit for the new department. The division has a project manager, logistics manager, and marketing manager. There is a web development team and a logistics team. It turns out that the project manager runs the department the same way just as he did in the previous department. This observation led the COO to the concept that changing the philosophy of the department would increase productivity and meet goals. This new division will be a major risk. It will have many trial and error circumstances during the development process so it is important to accept the lessons that will be uncovered.
