Q16. Starting or returning to college can be both exciting and challenging at the same time. Personally, I struggled in making up my mind about returning to college citing my

age as a negative factor. However, at 40 years old I am determined more than ever to have the opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree program that I have put off for so many years. The contributing aspect to this decision came when I sat back and analyzed my 13 year old son’s attitude towards school. I noticed the distraction that he is exposed to on a daily basis by means of entertainment available through television, internet and mobile web. I fear may he may not make it to college.

This has motivated me to show him that the same internet he is using for fun, I am going to use it to advance my career and earn a degree. I remind him time and time again that I regret how I misused my time when I was a youth and that I would hate for him to do the same.

While I am aware that determination alone can not help me achieve my long term goal of earning a bachelor’s degree, I need to have a positive attitude. That means that my mind has to be ready, I have to remain focused, and have a plan on how to execute this goal. The resources have to be put in place, time has to be allotted to studying. With a positive attitude, I am able to position myself in line with my goal. This element by itself sets the tone for success, it breeds the energy that allows me to spend time reading, researching, writing and so on.
