Muslims and Arabs are often stereotyped as belonging to the same group. Perhaps this is because the Arab region is where Christianity and Islam religions began. Muslims embrace the Islam religion, therefore it is easy for one to form the misconception of each group belonging to the same group. The Arabs dwell on their own Arabian region, speak the Arabian language, and choose their desired religion. Muslims, on the other hand, can speak almost any other language in the world. Most Arabs live in Middle Eastern nations, while most Muslims originate in Asia, other exist throughout the world.

The U.S. has spent a tremendous deal of effort trying to understand the Muslim and Arab society. After researching, an individual will discover that the U.S. government has not made little to no changes concerning the treatment of Muslims and Arabians. Muslims and Arabians, like all other Americans are allowed to do and say as they please, as their doings abide by the law.

Schaefer (2006) states, “Muslims has created an us-them mentality found both in international organizations and on street corners of the United States.” Orientalism is a custom or characteristic specifically to that of the Orient. Therefore Orientalism is any race’s way of life, and this is what taught a baby how to be Muslim or an Arabian to be Arabian a produce hate crimes.

To promote tolerance and produce prejudice, the media should use positive images of the Muslim and Arabian culture and this will produce a positive understanding will be perceived by Americans. As a result, there will be less hate crimes. In your own neighborhood, tolerance can be promoted and prejudice can be reduced by respecting others beliefs.
