Introduction

What are “Business Ethics”? What are they about and where do they come from? These are some of the top questions that are being asked all across the country by various business owners and students of business alike. In the following passages at least one of the questions will be answered to fill the void in many minds.

For many ethics in business may seem to be something rather new however this is far from the truth, business ethics have been around for more than 40 years according to “Managing Business Ethics; Straight Talk about how to do it right”. Therefore it is far from being what may be termed as a fad. Business ethics describe how a company should treat their employees, and expect for their employees to treat their company as well as fellow employees. They also describe what to do if there is questionable behavior among the company leaders or staff. It defines the essence of right and wrong, as well as the expectations a company can expect and furthermore what the employee can expect as well.

Discussion

Ethical issues such as theft would seem to be a well known fact that it is considered wrong, and that one should not steal. Stealing affects many areas and is considered unethical because of the effect that it has as well as the results that stem from theft. When an employee decides to steal from a company it can cause several things to be effected; the company loses money, the price of the merchandise goes up to regain some of the money lost, raises lost, and possible business’ close and jobs are lost due to infectious theft throughout the company. This in turn affects our communities due to the fact that we depend on our companies for wages, and jobs; the city even depends on the company for the revenue it brings for necessary improvements.
