1. The term “Bar B Q” is a short form of Bar-be-que, more commonly spelled as one word, "barbeque". The “B” becomes “be” and the “Q” becomes “cue”. The word translates as sacred fire pit and describes a grill for cooking meat consisting of a wooden platform resting on sticks. Or barbecue means to slow-cook meat at a low temperature for a long time over wood or charcoal.

2. In America, barbecue (or BBQ) originated in the late 1800's during Western cattle drives. But also William Dampier in 1697, was a pirate and explorer, supposedly introduced to the English language. However, barbecue was not invented in America and that no one really knows who invented the barbecue. In Taino Indian, the word ‘Barbecue” might come from the word “barbacoa” meaning meat-smoking apparatus. Also it could have come from the French word “Barbe a queue" which means "whiskers-to-tail." No one is sure of the correct origins of the word.

3. When the first Spanish explorers arrived in the new world they found the indigenous peoples preserving meats in the sun. This is an age old and almost completely universal method. The chief problem with doing this is that the meats spoil and become infested with bugs. To drive the bugs away the natives would built small smoky fires and place the meat on racks over the fires. The smoke would keep the insects at bay and help in the preserving of the meat.

5. Different styles of BBQ in the US according the country's various regions. Eastern BBQ uses pork, which is usually chopped up or sliced and topped with a sauce that is thin, vinegary and peppery. In the Southwest uses beef for BBQ, usually mixed with a Mexican spice and rubs. In the southeastern region, the pork is served sliced or chopped up, but with a thicker mustard sauce....
