Political Parties

In my research of the three largest political third parties I chose to focus on the Libertarian Party. This turned out to be a bit more difficult than I anticipated due to the fact that even Libertarians don’t have a solid definition for the parties’ beliefs. The core belief is an emphasis on limited government interference in citizens’ lives, individual liberty, and advocate high degree of personal and economic freedom or liberty. The main Page for the Libertarian party calls them the Party of Principle expressing minimum government, maximum freedom. After that it depends on the page you go to for more information. On one page may discuss how Libertarians borrow from both the Republican and Democratic Party, but most disagree and totally dismiss this idea.

After reading the views of the Libertarian Party a both Democrats and Republican would be enticed in certain areas. A republican would like the belief for economic freedom and the belief in lowering taxes and slashing bureaucratic regulations on businesses. Libertarians seem to also favor privation public works. A republican would also see eye to eye on the right to bear arms and a repeal of Obamacare, and deregulate and promote the privatization of health care.

On the other side of the aisle a Democrat would be enticed by the Libertarians stance on social issues and a call for increased civil liberties. For example such issues as abortion, legalization of marijuana, same sex marriage, immigration, LGBT (Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) and the separation of church and state.

In my opinion the Libertarian Party is very leery of the major political parties and believes that both have sold out the American people’s rights as envisioned by the founding fathers. They believe that both parties put the strengthening of their particular Parties interest above the individual liberties of the American people.
