1. Yes, there is a common reason for the absences. All of the absent students complained of having stomach aches. Most of the students complained of having diarrhea. Some of the students complained of fever, headache and vomiting. This sounds like a flu bug or a stomach virus to me. This illness also seems to be connected mostly to the band students. This may possible give the reason for the absences as the battle of the bands competition between Jackson and Truman Middle Schools. This stomach illness may have originated from a student eating at the Take Your Chances Diner or DELiscous restaurants because these restaurants failed on key inspection criteria

2. HYPOTHESIS #1: If the common reason for the absences is flu related symptoms such as stomach ache, diarrhea, fever, headache and vomiting, most absences occurred from the band students, and the absences all occurred on the same days of May 20 and 21 then all students may have had the flu.

HYPOTHESIS #2: If the common reason for the absences is flu related symptoms such as stomach ache, diarrhea, fever, headache and vomiting, most absences occurred from the band students, the absences all occurred on the same days of May 20 and 21 then all the students may have had a stomach virus which was spread from some students eating at the restaurants which didn’t pass the health inspections.

3. QUESTION #1: Which students ate at the Take You Chance diner or the Delicious restaurants on or before May 20 and 21?

QUESTION #2: Did the spike in absences occur on the same day in all four schools?

QUESTION #3: Was the spike in absences only in classes where the students were in close physical proximity with each other?

QUESTION #4: How long did the symptoms last in all of the students that reported flu-like symptoms?

QUESTION #5: The data shows that Jackson and Truman middle schools experienced the highest spike of absences within the band...
