Brown NationaLease Celebrates 75 Years in Business
1888 PressRelease Iowa Governor Branstad, employees, and the community shared in the festivities
celebrating the Des Moines familyowned business.
Brown NationaLease celebrated 75 years of being in business with a reception attended by Iowa Governor
Terry Branstad and approximately 500 guests. Attendees enjoyed a cocktail buffet and received a
commemorative gift to honor the prominent role Brown NationaLease has played in the community and in
the truck leasing industry. Tony Valdez, a fixture on the Iowa music scene since the 1960s, provided the
entertainment. The event was held on May 28th at the Downtown Marriott Grand Ballroom in Des Moines.
Brown NationaLease is the oldest full service truck leasing company in the Midwest. It has been
continuously owned by the Brown family since 1940, when R.A. Brown, a former theater organist for the
silent movies, founded Brown Truck Leasing Company. R.A. Brown was among the original founding
companies that helped formed the National Truck Leasing System (NTLS), which was the foundation for
NationaLease. Brown NationaLease is the only remaining member from that original group. R.A.'s son
Thomas Brown became President in 1973 and now manages the company along with his son Taylor. He
commented that the anniversary celebration "is truly a milestone for our familyowned business."
Headquartered in Des Moines, Brown NationaLease operates about 3,900 vehicles from 20 locations
throughout Iowa and the adjoining states. Brown also manages several other companies that offer a variety
of distribution services, including dedicated logistics, truckload operations, and warehousing.
