Young and middle adulthood case studies

Jackson is a 25-year old male who has recently been admitted to a substance abuse program in Chicago, Illinois. The purpose of this document is to give detailed information about the discoveries made and Jackson’s progress so far. It covers informations about his close relationship with his mother, his social relationships and his intimate relationships. It also shows where there has been a change in Jackson’s character (that has taken place in the recent past). The other issues the case study shows are both positive and negative consequences (Jackson is facing) resulting from his current and past behavior.

Jackson grew up in a single-parent home with his mother, Tina. Tina is 45 and is currently employed as a high school teacher. Jackson’s biological father has not had any involvement in his life. Tina’s boyfriend Michael often makes the attempt, to step up, to serve as a father figure to Jackson.

Through Jackson’s high school years he was a good student who earned A’s and B’s in most of his courses. Jackson was involved in a tragic car accident his senior year that left him with a slight head injury. The head injury that Jackson suffered led to him losing some cognitive functioning and analytical skills. Due to the car accident Jackson was prescribed painkillers, which he started to abuse. After the accident Jackson’s relationships started to suffer. In a very short time he started dating two young ladies (Alice and Beth). These relationships moved at a tremendous pace and both relationships resulted in marriage proposals (which Jackson later recanted). The relationships with both young ladies only lasted about 6 months in which each girl complained that Jackson was distant and unable to commit to them emotionally.
