Employee Handbook Nondiscrimination Progress Summary

HCS/430

April 2, 2015

(DeAnna Maddox’s Part)

When dealing with non-discrimination laws in a health care segment or any other work place there are procedures that have to be followed. Some of the non-discrimination issues that must be addressed within the health care organization and other work places and other places would be race, sex, national origin, disability, age, religious or political opinions, etc. Employees should not at any time use filing a complaint as a form of retaliation against another employee. Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) have an unlawful Discrimination Complaint Procedure they use when processing unlawful discrimination or sexual harassment. The organizations position is to assure that the employees of the company has the option to seek a resolution for the problem by talking to their supervisor before filing a complaint. For example, Emily feels like Mike makes passes at her when they are on lunch together and she feels uncomfortable with the situation, at this time before filing a complaint Emily should address the issue with a supervisor. This issue will fall under sexual harassment. If a resolution is not reached between the parties involved then they will be able to file a formal complaint. The formal complaint will be filed with the Department of Human resources and must be received within 10 days of the incident. Complaints can take up to 45 days to complete a full investigation and must be delivered by fax or mail. All documents have to be reviewed by the complainant and the accused before the full investigation is complete.
