As football programs grow and the pressure is on, so is the ability to make poor choices. Coaches are under pressure to make money for the college, recruit the best players, and win games. The staff and faculty is focused on a successful and profitable football program to supplement the school. Alumni is concerned with getting discounted tickets and winning games. The local businesses are concerned with publicity and advertisement that they receive in return for their donations and monetary support. The fans want to see their team win playoffs and become the champion. It becomes a very difficult task to satisfy everyone. Unfortunately, this is when poor decisions throwing ethics and morals to the wayside are made. Staff, coaches and players choose unethical ways to achieve their goals, such as committing fraud, bribery, and other illegal and unethical behavior. It consequently became a necessity to create an organization that held coaches, players, and staff accountable for any misconduct. The NCAA was formed in 1906 to ensure ethics, fairness, respect, and integrity in college football. It has also strengthened the academic requirements for players and outlines recruiting rules for the coaches.
