According to CNN Money article “Young and super rich: Top 10 billionaires under 40,” College might be overrated. A list of the richest people under 40 is made of several college dropouts and one that didn’t even go to college. A majority of this list is made up of male “technopreneurs” that focus on social media and technology. Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook, is at the top of the list with a net worth of 35.1 billion dollars. Others in the top 10 include Dustin Moskovitz (Harvard dropout,) Sean Parker (didn’t attend college,) were also tied into the creation of Facebook in its early stages. The U.S. is home to a majority of the young billionaires with China, India and Brazil each having one place in the top 10. This goes to show that college isn’t always necessary if you have a good idea and a general understanding of how to run a business. I can also vouch for this from personal experience. I know quite a few successful business owners that never attended college. I believe that starting your own business is one of the very few jobs left that you can be successful in without a college degree in today’s society. This is because you starting your own business does not require you getting hired by another person and gets rid of the need for a degree. Also people can be successful without a college degree because they are creative and willing to take risks to gain major benefits. All it takes is an idea and some general knowledge about business management and operations and anyone can create a very successful business from the ground up.
