Choices for operating systems
Student:
Institution:
For which kinds of computing and information systems do users really need to care about underlying technologies -- which is what an operating system is?
The operating system is the primary software which is used to mange other components of a computer system. All software and hardware components must be installed after the operating system has been installed. The operating system may allow or disallow other successive software components to be installed (Northcutt, 2014). For example, earlier versions of Apple only allow software that is developed by apple. The choice for operating system depends of the needs of the user. For example, a user who mostly needs graphics software will opt for Mac operating systems which are more compatible with a variety of graphics software.
Which kinds of users ought to pay more attention to how well a variety of devices and applications work together (and how seamlessly)? Which kind of user are you?
Users who are involved with sharing of data on different platforms are more concerned on the variety of applications and devices that are compatible. For example, a server manager has to ensure that the programs they have allow sharing of data across all the operating systems. On the other hand, Website managers have to ensure compatibility of their applications with different internet places and domains. I am in the web client category. I usually receive data from the internet to use for my academic progress. I rarely make changes to the information (Batarseh, Haddad, Oreifej, & Al-Haddad, 2013).
And... Do you want to be the other kind?
In the future, I want to join the software development industry. In this industry, I have to be cautious of the platform used to develop the products. The platform used determines the compatibility with other operating systems in future (Northcutt, 2014).
