Which suggestions did you see implemented at Beck N’ Call? Explain.

It is suggested by Robert that Jacqueline should be hired because of her race. He makes comments in the video advising of Jacqueline being a minority and Jacqueline being African-American. Robert suggests that Paul likes Sonya on a personal level and that she would be a better fit because of her looks. He states in the video “It’s obvious why you like her”. Robert also suggests that Jacqueline would be a better fit because she is married. He suggests in the video that married individuals are more stable.

If you were a manager at Beck N’ Call would you recommend use of pre-employment tests to clarify the decision that Robert and Paul must make between the two candidates? What tests would you use? Why?

I would conduct tests to see who has a higher skill level and would be a better fit in the position. This would rule out any opinions of bias by either party. I would test them on the customer service skills, put them on the phone and see how they communicate. I would suggest a day in the work setting to see how the fit in with their co-workers. It may be a good idea to test them on the map and direction giving skills since it is a company specializing in delivery service. The job description states interpersonal skills are vital. They should conduct some computer testing on their typing, customer service, and computer skills. I feel these tests are relevant to the job requirements listed in the posting. It is important to know they will communicate well with the vendors and customers and work to build a larger customer base.

Would you recommend another approach to the selection process that may have worked better? Explain.

I would recommend that Robert not conduct the hiring process. It is hard to believe that he oversees Human Resources with the amount of Civil...
