Subject: Appraisal of Midwest project review and comments
It is with great and grave concern that I write this report. The Midwest project has been considered to be a very prestigious one as it is the technology support .Understanding the critical challenges that lay ahead of the project, resources both men material and money has been funneled into the project to ensure that deadlines are met.
Unfortunately, the project has run into a crisis and there are grievous apprehensions as ot whether the project can be kept alive.
The following graph illustrates the cost overruns of the project which is a serious concern.
The management has to now look at reconsigning the control points that have to be evaluated as to the reason for cost over runs and project delays .
It is very clear that the management want the project ot be scrapped but my opinion is that the project can be put on track with a little more objective appraisal and lean leadership.
The management will have to look at why Mark Wimmer’s consulting company has
been contracted to provide technical guidance and services when Mark Wimmer resigned from the company .There could be a conflict of interest and could be one of the reasons for the delay in the project.
The management will have to further look at the delay in appointing a northern project manager losing very valuable time .this has demoralized the entire team.
The appointment of Joyce Cutler who was made the acting project manager did not drive the team well as there was lack of responsibility nodes.
The whole project has not been handled with a centralized planning and executing centre with the project manager in taking them ost important role in committing to the project .In fact what needed to be clearly understood that the project which was of important magnitude did not have the leadership to steer it...
