METHODS FOR REDUCING THEFT

There are several ways that can be used to reduce theft at the Cracker Barrel. Over the last year there has been over $33,000 worth of merchandise stolen that has been progressively getting worse. In order to put a stop to the amount of theft we have to provide additional security by installing video surveillance cameras, putting ink sensors in the clothes, more workers on the floor, and hiring security guards.

Installation of Video Cameras

Lack of proper surveillance is a huge factor in the amount of theft in the Cracker Barrel. By installing multiple video cameras around the building it could be used to deter potential thieves from stealing. With the video evidence it can provide raw footage of a suspect stealing and be used when pressing charges. Video surveillance can also be used to catch employees who would want to steal from the Cracker Barrel. When criminals see a surveillance camera, or employees know surveillance is in place, it discourages criminal activity. Video surveillance can be used to monitor what customers do. For example, if a client claims to have purchased an expensive item but does not have the receipt, video surveillance records are used to determine whether she was in the store on the day in question. If she did purchase the items the cameras will provide live footage that will clarify an exchange between a client and a store employee. These all are benefits of having cameras to help protect the Cracker Barrel from receiving major loss in revenue from theft.

In order to install the video cameras at the Cracker Barrel we would have to have hire professionals. Installing up to 10 cameras in the building on average could range from $7000- $13,000 but the benefits of having these cameras would highly outweigh the costs. The amount of theft would decrease drastically by a whopping 93%.
