a. Background of the study

* Current condition

Panombon Agriventures(PAVI) is currently exporting its one of a kind bananas to its buyers in Japan and in the Middle East and they are planning to consider China as part of their market. From their banana plantation that has the size of 50 hectares, the size of their production and exportation ranges from 2,500 to 3,000 boxes of bananas every week, 12, 000 boxes/ month, and 144, 000 boxes annually. It’s board of directors are actually planning to expand their current plantation from 50 hectares to 60 hectares which is located in Panombon, Mati City. In part of their expansion they plan to have a production site in Pantukan and Genoroso, but this proposal is still under evaluation.

* Value of industry

PAVI’S current value in terms of their tangible and intangible factors when merged is worth 15 million pesos. This includes their plantation site, equipment and machineries used for production, and its cash on hand. Banana growers are highly valued now that the demand in bananas are increasing in numbers, that’s why the owners of PAVI are considering on expanding their plantation and increase their production so that they could also expand their market.

* Exports/imports

Panombon Agriventures exports their bananas to the Middle East and Japan, but they are considering China as part of their market. Most of their production goes to their buyers in Japan since bananas are highly demanded there and Japan is where they first exported their bananas.

* Linkages

PAVI’s linkages only include Enrique Ngo Lopez Corporation(ENL Corp.). This corporation is actually Panombon Agriventure’s mother corporation, PAVI came right after ENL Corp., ENL Corp. focuses on raising cattle and goats, but they also own a number of buildings that are for rent.
