Andrea DiSessa

My name is Andrea DiSessa, and I was born on June 3, 1947 in the USA. I am a researcher on education, and specifically, the use of computers in learning. My education qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which I was awarded in 1975. I also have an Applied Baccalaureate degree in Physics from Princeton University, which I was awarded in 1969. My interests in research are centered on Genetic Epistemology, use of computers in education, and programming languages for use by people who are not experts. I also do research on instruction in the fields of Mathematics and Physics.

I have had the opportunity to serve under various institutions, while still doing my research. Most of this was done after acquiring my Applied Baccalaureate. I first served as a member of the A.I Laboratory- Logo Group in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This was from June 1972 up to June 1982. From September 1975 up to June 1977, I was a special lecturer in education in Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After this, I was promoted to the position of assistant professor in education, in the same institution. I held this post from September 1981 to June 1982.

Afterwards, I became a principal scientist in the laboratory for computer science in the same institution (M.I.T), from July 1982 to March 1984. Over the same period, but up to August 1982, I had the opportunity to be a visiting researcher at Centre Mondial (World Center for Computers and Human Resources). Afterwards, I became a senior scientist in the M.I.T. To sum up my professional work, I then served in U.C. Berkeley, and the Center for Advanced studies in the Behavioral Sciences. Also, I was a visiting professor in the Danish Pedagogical University in Denmark, and I...
