I will be exploring the ethical issues of arson and homicide. Ethics are the standards by which we know is right and wrong and we all live by. It is why we refrain from committing crimes like robbery, rape, sexual assault. It is also our reflection of our morals. When someone is unethical they are going against the standards of honesty, loyalty and compassion. Being unethical always tends to get someone hurt, either physically or mentally or socially.

When investigating any crime such as arson or homicide a person must be sure to not let their own personal beliefs get in the way. Don’t let your judgment get clouded by what is happening or to whom it is happening. You must be diligent in not overlooking anything in the crime scene no matter how minute it may be. You must be sure not to tell anyone anything about the case that is not directly involved in the investigation. There should never be any fabricating of evidence, only log and take pictures of what needs to be documented as evidence.

In order to reduce the ethical problems that occur, one must start from the initial hiring process of the investigators. A complete background check of the individual and his family and friends need to be done. Constant ethical training courses on how to handle ethical situations should be offered. There is no better way to learn ethical behavior and practice that behavior than on the job. In both arson and homicide, we can make sure that all witnesses are questioned according to protocol and without any coercion, while not leading them to answer the way we want them to. We all need to make sure that we do not damage or contaminate evidence. A suspect must be read his Miranda rights when he is in custody and being interrogated and allowed to have those rights carried out if that is their wish.
