Professor Robert Clark
In my section of the report I will be researching the basic way that the brain computer interface works along with the technological advances, anticipated impacts, and controversial factors. I will be describing the technology and also be researching the scientists’ role with the technology.
My report will consist of two sections: I Introduction and II Technology Description
Abi-Rached, J. M. (2008). The implications of the new brain sciences. The 'Decade of the Brain' is over but its effects are now becoming visible as neuropolitics and neuroethics, and in the emergence of neuroeconomies. EMBO Reports, 9(12), 1158-1162. doi:10.1038/embor.2008.211
This paper by Joelle M. Abi-Rached discusses the relationships between the science and politics of the technology. She also touches base on some of the controversies BMI faces along with the pharmaceutical industry’s relationship to BMI. Also, there is discussion of the ENSN launch conference which was centered on BMI technology. I believe this information would be very useful in my report.
Gaidos, S. (2011). MIND-CONTROLLED. (cover story). Science News, 180(1), 26.
An article in Science News by Susan Gaidos explains how a handful of patients from the United States have been fitted with fully implanted electrode arrays. She explains how scientists are working on developing the technology and also does a good job at describing how the research has gone thus far. I think it is a great article that can be used in my report.
Grabianowski, Ed. (2007) "How Brain-computer Interfaces Work". Retrieved from: HowStuffWorks.com. <http://computer.howstuffworks.com/brain-computer-interface.htm
Mr. Grabianowski writes a great article on the basic functions of brain controlled interfaces and describes how the technology works. I intend to use this information in my paper to help describe these functions and how...
