Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4P’s)

Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (commonly known as 4P’s), is a Conditional Cash Transfer Program of the Phil. government and is a poverty reduction strategy that provides grants to extremely poor households to improve their health, nutrition and education particularly of children aging 0-14. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is the implementing agency in line with the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Education (DepEd).

4P’s is held for its importance in breaking the cycle of poverty that opens and gives opportunities for children of poor families as they are given the chance to transform their future and breakaway from poverty. 4P’s have faced negative feedbacks for its method in giving assistance to people (the CCT) that demonstrates a form of dole-out, considering the cash is directly given to the beneficiaries. Speculations have arise and lifted, because the government is “spoon-feeding” the people, the beneficiaries tend to be more reliant to the government and hanging since they have just to wait for receiving the money given to them. How can helping people help themselves be realized and where is the essence of teaching them how to catch fish if the approach or manner of helping is in contrast. One way or another, we should not judged it in its short term since it would encompass to the next years of its existence to actually oversee its good effects if it truly address and answer the presence of poverty.

As a beneficiary of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and as an ESGPPA scholar as well, I can probably say that it helps us, it uplifted us to a more standard way of living and it reduced the poor quality of our life. As a 4P’s beneficiary, we have the responsibility to carry out and conditions to employ so that we will not be eliminated or withdrawn.
