Chapter 1. Who is a leader and what skills do leaders need?

“Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it”. Therefore, leaders are people who help themselves and others to do the right thing. In my minds, leadership is the willingness and ability to lead and influence others in the organizations and individuals. In addition, I thought that effective leadership could make a positive difference in the lives of people, the functioning of groups, and the success of organizations. Also, effective leadership has been shown to improve employees’ satisfaction with their jobs, motivation at work, and task performance. As state in the book, have even suggested that effective leadership is essential for societies to progress in positive directions, or without it. On the other hand, a person is a boss who has bad performance could cause employees a lot of stress and heath-related problems. So that an effective leader is a person who does the following:

1. Creates an inspiring vision of the future.

2. Motivates and inspires people to engage with that vision.

3. Manages delivery of the vision.

4. Coaches and builds a team, so that it is more effective at achieving the vision.

1. Creating an inspiring vision of the future

A vision is a realistic, convincing and attractive depiction of where we want to be in the future in business. And then vision highly provides direction, sets priorities, and provides a marker so that we can tell that we have achieved what we wanted to achieve. That means can focus on an organization’s strengths by using tools, approach. Consequence, leadership is proactive-problem solving, looking ahead, and not being satisfied with things as they are.
