Amazon has the most departments with 12 available, while Barnes & Noble is close behind with 10 departments. Borders comes in last with only nine departments to choose from. Amazon’s departments are also the most diverse, ranging from books/movies to clothing, sports and outdoors; or tools, auto and industrial. Borders and Barnes & Noble basically stick to books, games, and dvds. Furthermore, Barnes & Noble has a department specifically for textbooks which is convenient for students looking for textbooks online.

The same search was done at each Web site for Italian cookbooks to compare results and prices. Amazon provided 938 results, Borders provided 455 results, and Barnes & Noble provided by far the most results at 2,253. It was Amazon who offered the lower price, Barnes & Noble asked a price only a couple dollars more, while Borders asked a price over 10 dollars more than Amazon’s price. The procedure to make a purchase from each Site is also different. Amazon requires registration for logging in and after logging in the purchase can be made with eight different steps (clicks). Borders did not require registration but asked for an email address, and it took nine steps (clicks) to make a purchase. Barnes & Noble does not require registration or email address with 11 steps (clicks) to make a purchase.

The Websites also have individual features and services. Amazon tracks user searches to make suggestions each time a user visits the Site, offers daily deals, and offers the option of building a wishlist.
