Gang Violence

Gang violence is twenty percent of homicides in a large geographical area from 2002 to 2006. Preventing these gang affiliations will possibly reduce a large amount of gang activities. Many researchers have focused on showing the risk factors for gang affiliation; nevertheless, little information is available on protective factors (Dawn). The aim was to identify the risk and the protective factors in order to offer further direction for gang violence deterrence strategies. The CDC study that was performed has identified the risk and protective factors for gang connection to show gang connection deterrence strategies. For juveniles, that reside in a high-risk society has eliminated all possible risks for gang association maybe difficult (Dawn). The research shows the possible significance in escalating just a few key protecting factors, for instance, a parent’s capability to take charge of their children or a youth’s capability to deal with inconsistency and the help that will be provided to youth from joining gangs.

Gangs, even when they have the same names, are different across cities and towns and use a mix of gang cultures and symbols (Starbuck et al., 2001). The variables that are predictive in successfully breaking the cycle of violence are to implement an effective program that can assist these youths. I believe that it needs to start from home, and if the parents cannot help their child, the community should provide programs that should be available to assist these youths. There should be after school programs or a community center, where the youths can learn different things, such as boxing, karate, increase their education, and so forth. There are many cases where there is abuse and/or where the child is neglected in the home, but later will find help through a group and achieve their foothold....
