Destination CEO Nordstrom report

John Nordstrom was a Swedish immigrant who invested $13,000 to start a shoe store in Seattle, Washington. John Nordstrom store was founded in the 1800s, which eventually grew into a nationwide chain of department stores. Blake Nordstrom is the great-grandson of John Nordstrom founder of Nordstrom department store. Blake did not receive preferential treatment from the family. At the age of 13 Blake started working at Nordstrom’s in the stockroom of the shoe department along with several other young family members. John Nordstrom Company today is the gold standard for prominent customer service.

Blake Nordstrom was a dedicated worker at the entry level position of the company. Blake was encouraged to climb the ladder of success within the family’s business and because of his drive he soon became a salesman and buyer to merchandise manager and store manager. “In 1991, Blake Nordstrom was named vice president and general manager of Nordstrom’s Washington and Alaska region” (Stephanie Watson, 2002.) “In 1995, Blake shared the position of president with five other family members which shared dividing responsibilities in management” (Stephanie Watson, 2002.) Blake Nordstrom was “raised sales by nearly 20 percent within the first few months of upholding the title as president of Nordstrom’s shoe store” (Stephanie Watson, 2002.)
