Monotheism is the doctrine or belief that there is only one God. Muslims, who are
followers of Islam, believe there is only one God, which is Allah. They believe that Allah
ultimately has control over all of creation; however, they do accept some ideas of
evolutionary creation. Muslims believe man is separated from the rest of creation because
Allah has given man divine gifts, such as Intelligence, free will, and the power of speech.
Animals were also created to serve God, but only by naturally fulfilling their purpose.
Muslims do not believe that a personal relationship is necessary with Allah, and that they
are of really no ultimate importance to him. The term Islam means submission or
obedience to God, and they are only here to serve and obey him. The concepts of Morality
are obtained from their religious texts, such as the Qur’an. Ideas of right and wrong are
centered around basic beliefs and principles, and by following the Five Pillars. The strict
following of the Five Pillars is necessary to gain entry into eternal Paradise. They believe
that salvation is ultimately based on human effort, and that Allah has control over each
person’s eternal destiny. Muslims also believe there are different levels of Hell, which is the
eternal state of damnation. The level of hell that one is destined to is determined by their
particular beliefs and they way they ultimately lived out their life.
Although Islam and Christianity both serve only one God, they are both very different
Gods. Christianity believes there is only one Creator of all things, which is God, and does
not accept the idea of any evolutionary creation. Although God created plants, animals,
etc., and they are important, man is the only one created in His image. This makes us
