United Parcel Service (UPS) is the largest package delivery company in the world, in term of both revenue and volume. To stay ahead of its competitors, the company had been using Information Technology (IT) and Information Systems (IS) to improve its competitive advantage.

* Reducing internal cost for both UPS and its customer. The OnLine tools that UPS developed had eliminated the telephone cost for UPS itself and its customer.

* Gaining customers t. DIAD was launched to capture real time proof of delivery which will then improve the account receivables for UPS customers by a shorter payment cycle.

* Embedding UPS system into customers’ system which will make it much harder to be replaced. UPS will then be easier in keeping its position amongst its customer.
