Introduction

Modern business world is characterized by an increased reliance on technology for executing business processes. With this in mind, there has been an increased competition amongst information technology firms in a bind to secure a market advantage as well as increase their profitability. Niel Co. Limited is a computer manufacturing company located in Abu Dhabi and with operations in over 52 other countries. The company sourcing some of its resources from other IT companies including Intel Corporation for its computer chips. Since its inception more than 50 years ago, the company has faced a lot of challenges but has miraculously survived. In the years 1993, Niel Co. Limited nearly collapsed owing to the introduction of personal computers and client server. Prior to this, the company had relied much on corporate business supplying offices and business enterprises with office computers and desktops. The introduction of personal computer however called for a change in the organization strategies and redefinition of its goals. Today, the company enjoys a wide market base and improved returns as compared to the past years especially those that immediately followed the introduction of personal computers. This paper seeks to explicate the various strategies that Niel Co. adopted to ensure it remained competitive and profitable in a business environment characterized by numerous players and fierce competition.
