The Innocence Project

Before I entered the Business field I had my eye on the Criminal Justice and/or Law field. This field has had my undivided attention since I can remember. I have always been interested in court TV shows, forensics, and almost everything that has to do with criminology. I was actually studying criminal sociology about six years ago because I wanted to either be a criminal psychiatrist or a forensic specialist. I find it fascinating that we can identify who committed crimes and clear innocent individuals (who are considered suspects at times) just by finding something as small as a piece of fiber that connects them to a crime.

This is why I chose “The Innocence Project” for this assignment. The Innocence Project is a non-profit organization that helps innocent civilians who had been convicted of a crime they have not committed. They perform DNA tests that submit definite evidence that the civilian is innocent of the crime they were convicted for (The Innocence Project, n.d.).

Professional Knowledge and Abilities

The Innocence Project is a great nonprofit organization that will provide individuals at a second chance at life. There are many ways to be wrongfully committed of a crime even though it does not happen often, but it does happen. Even putting one individual behind bars for a crime they did not commit can be detrimental to how our laws truly work. This organization can increase professional knowledge and abilities by offering individuals resources, techniques, and the ability to be persistent. This group must have the legal resources in order reevaluate the DNA testing they believed was conducted incorrectly. They should also learn to be persistent with a case they truly believed was wrongfully convicted.
